Tomato Time

Nicola Trwst Posted on May 21, 2012 by NicolaNov 17, 2019

I’ve been a busy little rabbit, preparing for the publishing of my mystery novel, The Belvedere Club . So sandwiched between last week’s guest bloggers, Bette & J.J. Lamb and next week’s guest blogger Patricia Morin, I’m going to offer up one of my favorite tomato sauce recipes, learned while eating my way across Tuscany in 2009.

Formatting, Formatting, Formatting

Nicola Trwst Posted on May 6, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

Thinking of self-publishing on a digital format? What writers aren’t these days? I’ve been listening to other writers tell their self-publishing stories for a couple of months and the number one thing I take away from these lectures is “Formatting.”

Mystery Theatre

Nicola Trwst Posted on Apr 8, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

What’s worse than a table full of mystery writers at a Mystery Theatre Dinner? Answer: Six tables of mystery writers.

While at the Left Coast Crime Convention last weekend, I attended the Mystery Theatre Dinner that took place on a 1920’s riverboat, The Delta King. I’ve always wanted to participate in one of these events—what mystery writer doesn’t want to test their skills. I’ve even been tempted to buy one of the games and host one at my house.

river between earth and underworld

Many Rivers to Cross

Nicola Trwst Posted on Mar 26, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

The river Styx is said to wind around Hell nine times before merging with the other four rivers. In Greek mythology the Styx separates the world of the living from the underworld. Its name comes from the Greek word for hate and therefore, the Styx is called the river of hate.

From the racial killings in France last week to the shooting of Trayvon in Florida last month, from the endless suicides of bullied children in our schools to the sexist remarks by Rush Limbaugh and others, it feels like the whole world is bathing in the murky waters of the river Styx.

Nicola Trwst Posted on Mar 5, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

Ghosts. Are you a believer? Either you are or you aren’t. Everyone has an opinion.

A Few Tips for Elder Care

Nicola Trwst Posted on Feb 20, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

This week I want to write about something a little more somber. Many friends have lost parents this year and many more have parents in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, or some type of care facility.

A Tree is a Tree is a…Tree?

Nicola Trwst Posted on Feb 5, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

It all started with a kinky BBC show about people who fall in love with inanimate objects. Supposedly, there is a woman married to the Berlin Wall and another woman in love with the Eiffel Tower. Okay, the Eiffel Tower I understand. It’s very shapely.

Other than a good laugh I wouldn’t have thought more about the show, but then I read about a line of priests that are said to guard a tree in the woodlands of Diana, the roman goddess of fertility.

My Fairy Godmother

Meet My Fairy Godmother

Nicola Trwst Posted on Jan 30, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

One of my first memories as a child was meeting Teddy, my Fairy Godmother.  In actuality she is my Godmother.  Somehow my childish brain confused my bedtime stories with this sweet, loving woman who in many ways was bigger than life.

As a child I saw her on rare occasions, which helped to keep the Fairy Godmother fantasy alive.  When I was an annoying thirteen, we moved nearer to Teddy’s house and I learned how magical Teddy really is.

Stop your Wine-ing

Stop your Wine-ing

Nicola Trwst Posted on Jan 15, 2012 by NicolaDec 7, 2014

I’ve just read about prisoners making wine out of fruit cocktail and stale bread.  As gross as that sounds, it got me thinking about the origin of wine.  Was wine an accident of old grapes and bread.  Did a house servant of yesteryear noticed the chickens staggering around and singing off-key after devouring last night’s table scraps?  Did that servant then think, hey, I’d like to do that?

New Year, New Site

Nicola Trwst Posted on Jan 3, 2012 by NicolaMar 22, 2012

The champagne and streamers are a fading memory. Time for the new and improved NicolaTrwst.com.

WELCOME to my new website. An update was long overdue and so I finally got to it (well, my elf did).
I will be using this site to introduce you to my books, offer you short stories, and introduce you to some fine artists and writers.
As my bio suggests, I’m eclectic in almost everything I do that’s why my new blog is titled: Myths, Munchies, and Madness. Three of my favorite things.

I hope you will enjoy it, come back often, and feel free to share.
I hope all your dreams come true in 2012!

A Christmas Boat Parade

Nicola Trwst Posted on Dec 25, 2011 by NicolaMar 22, 2012

[weaver_youtube //youtu.be/Vem_BfEgeUw sd=0 percent=100 ratio=.5625 center=1 rel=0 https=0 privacy=0 showinfo=0] (Play back Full Screen at 720p for maximum pleasure) This past Christmas, I was invited to the San Rafael Christmas boat parade. I had watched it from the shore once in the past as I love the lights and the mood it sets, but this time I had a chance to be part of it on one of the boats.
